Ainsley Halbmeijer is a freelance documentary cinematographer based in Naarm/Melbourne. Her poetic and portrait focussed filmmaking reflects a deep commitment to collaborative and ethical storytelling behind the lens.
In 2021 she completed a Masters of Film and Television (Documentary) at the Victorian College of the Arts. She has shot documentary content for significant Melbourne organisations including the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation and the Heide Museum of Modern Art. She also has extensive experience on set crewing on short and feature films and TVC’s, working with production houses including Finch, Exit Films, Goodoil, Collider, MOFA and the ABC.
Ainsley has self-directed and shot two award-winning films, "Wisewoman" which was a finalist for Best Documentary Short at the 2023 Australian Women's Film Festival and screened at the 2025 Melbourne Documentary Film Festival, and “The Hotline” which won the 2020 Very Short Film Festival and was screened through The Guardian Labs.
She is currently shooting a short documentary that will premiere at MIFF 2025.
